Dye-sublimation is a printing process in which heat and pressure convert solid dye into gas that bonds inside polyester fiber, making the color a permanent part of the fabric. The artwork is first printed in reverse onto transfer paper; under the press, the gaseous dye migrates into the fiber and locks there as it cools.
The consequences follow from that one fact. Nothing sits on the surface, so the printed area feels exactly like the rest of the blanket. There is no film to crack and no edge to peel, so washing cannot remove what is inside the fiber. And because the dye is applied photographically rather than through stencils, the method reproduces unlimited colors, gradients, and edge-to-edge backgrounds.
Screen printing pushes ink through a mesh stencil onto the fabric's surface, where it cures into a solid layer that sits on top of the material. Each color needs its own screen, which caps designs at a few flat colors, and the cured layer has a stiff hand. On garments with small logo placements it is a workhorse; on a blanket, the large print area and constant folding work against it, because a surface layer flexed along the same lines eventually cracks there.
Vinyl and HTV are films cut to shape and heat-glued onto the fabric, which makes the result a well-attached sticker rather than a print. The method suits names, numbers, and simple one-color shapes, and it is popular for personalization because the equipment is cheap. Its limits are structural: film comes in flat colors only, cannot cover a blanket-sized face, and every piece has edges, and glued edges on a flexing, laundered item eventually lift.

List what the design needs: photographs, gradients, or full-background color mean dye-sublimation is the only method that can reproduce it. A small flat-color logo keeps all three methods in play, so move to the next test.
Decide how the item will live. A blanket is folded, dragged, and laundered for years, which is exactly the duty cycle that cracks a cured screen-print layer and peels a glued vinyl edge. For anything washed regularly, choose the method with no surface layer to fail.
Confirm the fabric can take the method. Sublimation bonds into polyester fiber, and finer fiber holds more detail; our blankets print on 120-denier NubaySoft 2.0 for that reason. Cotton-heavy fabrics rule sublimation out, which is why t-shirts often use the surface methods.
